4 Al-Badr terrorists trapped in South Kashmir's Shopian district
Acting on a specific input about the presence of terrorists in the area, police and army had started a joint operation and laid a cordon at Kanigam area of Shopian on Wednesday night. Police however said that the forces are exercising restraint and efforts are underway to persuade the terrorists to surrender.
Centre only can identify, include a community in SEBC list: SC
The Supreme Court on Wednesday said the Centre could include a community in a list, which is supposed to be published under Article 342A (1), specifying the SEBCs in each state and Union Territory. The top court added that the states can, through their existing mechanisms only make suggestions to the President or the Backward Class Commission under Article 338B, for inclusion, exclusion or modification of castes or communities, in the list to be published under Article 342A (1).
Mamata effects major reshuffle in state police on first day in office
On the first day in office in her third term as the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday effected a major reshuffle in the police hierarchy, transferring 29 top officers, mostly bringing back policemen to their former positions who were transferred by the Election Commission during the recently concluded Assembly polls.

Local trains suspended in Bengal, Mamata announces curbs
Hours after taking the responsibility of the state for the third time in a row, chief minister Mamata Banerjee said, "All local trains to be suspended from tomorrow till further notice and only 50 per cent of the state transport will ply on roads following the increase of Covid cases in the state. Lots of outsiders had come to the state in the last three months and now we will have to control it".

Third wave of Covid inevitable, warns govt's Scientific Advisor
Addressing the Union Health Ministry press conference, he said: "The third phase is inevitable given the amount of virus circulating. But it is difficult to predict the timeline. We should prepare for the new (third) wave." He also said that regular monitoring of the Covid-19 vaccines is needed for up-gradation to deal with the new strains.

Delhi to face water shortage from May 6 to 8: DJB
"Due to depletion of levels at Wazirabad Pond and reduction in the release of raw water by Haryana into the Yamuna, water production has been curtailed from the water treatment plants at Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla. The water supply shall be affected from May 6 to May 8 and so on, till the pond level improves to normal," the DJB said.
