Senior advocate Indira Jaising mentioned the matter before a bench headed by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud. Jaising submitted before the court that common compilation and the order of arguments in the case is ready. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said the Centre's reply is ready and it has to be vetted, and added that he would argue the case for one-and-a-half days as it pertains to an important issue. The bench said, "List this on May 9, 2023".

It stressed that constitutional courts should exercise caution in making adverse remarks against the parties as those may cause great harm to their reputation. A bench comprising justices Krishna Murari and Ahsanuddin Amanullah said,; "It is essential for the courts to be extremely cautious while passing adverse remarks against the parties involved, and must do so with proper justification, in the right forum, and only if it is necessary to meet the ends of justice".
India reports 1,134 fresh Covid cases, 5 deaths

Currently, the active caseload stands at 7,026 which is 0.01 per cent of total cases. In the same time span, the country has also reported five Covid deaths one each from Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat and Maharashtra and one reconciled by Kerala. The total Covid deaths in the country so far stands at 5,30,813.
Tremor effect: Building tilt complaints keep Delhi Fire Department on toes

According to Delhi Fire Service (DFS) Director Atul Garg, a call about tilting of a building was received in Shakarpur area on Vikas Marg in east Delhi. "This seems to be a good intention call, no tilt was found in the building, the call given by the neighbour as occupants of the building are not aware about the call," he said.
Major quake shakes north India, triggers panic

According to the US Geological Services, the 6.5 magnitude quake had an epicentre 40 km south by south east of Afghanistan's Jurm. It occurred at a depth of nearly 190 km. India's National Centre for Seismology mapped it at 6.6 magnitude, and at 10.17.27 p.m. (IST) with the epicentre at 133 km south by south east of Fayzabad in northern Afghanistan.
Delhi reports 83 fresh Covid infections, positivity rate rises to 5.83%

Meanwhile, the positivity rate of the city has risen to 5.83 per cent. The number of active cases stands at 270 out of which 179 patients are being treated in home isolation. With 21 patients recovering in the last 24 hours, the total number of recoveries so far has gone to 19,81,293, while the total caseload is 20,08,087 and the death toll in the city stands at 26,524.
Amritpal matter: NIA team reaches Punjab, likely to take over case

"In India, rice production can decrease from 10 per cent to 30 per cent, whereas maize production can decrease from 25 per cent to 70 per cent assuming a range of temperature increase from 1 degree centigrade to 4 degrees centigrade," a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said on Monday.
