Delhi reports 1,407 fresh Covid cases, 2 deaths

In the same time period, two Covid deaths were reported, taking Delhi's overall Covid death toll to 26,179. Meanwhile, the test positivity rate has dipped slightly to 4.72 per cent in the city, while the number of active cases presently stands at 5,955. With 1,546 patients recovering in the last 24 hours, the total number of recoveries has gone up to 18,60,698. The number of patients being treated in home isolation stands at 4,365.
Within 48 hours, Centre notifies appointment of two judges to Supreme Court

A notification from the Ministry of Law and Justice said the President is pleased to appoint Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, to be judge of the Supreme Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office. In another notification, the ministry said: "the President is pleased to appoint Justice Jamshed Burjor Pardiwala, judge of Gujarat High Court, to be judge of Supreme Court of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office".
India logs 3,805 new Covid cases, 22 deaths

In the same period, there were 22 additional Covid fatalities, taking the nationwide death toll to 5,24,024. The active caseload also increased to 20,303 cases, accounting for 0.05 per cent of the country's total positive cases. The recovery of 3,168 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,25,54,416. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.74 per cent.
India, Italy call for closer industrial and defence ties

On his first official visit to India, from May to 6, Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio, held bilateral talks with his Indian counterpart S. Jaishankar where they reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations, including the progress in implementation of the 2020-2024 action plan adopted at the virtual summit in November 2020.

The active caseload of the country has slightly declined to 19,688 cases, accounting for 0.05 per cent of the country's total positive cases. The recovery of 3,549 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,25,51,248.
India objects to WHO methodology projecting 'excess mortality estimates'

"Despite India's objection to the process, methodology, and outcome of this modelling exercise, the WHO has released the excess mortality estimates without adequately addressing India's concerns. India had also informed the WHO that in view of the availability of authentic data published through Civil Registration System (CRS) by Registrar General of India (RGI), mathematical models should not be used for projecting excess mortality numbers for India," it said.
