Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday criticised the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress over their comments on the alleged Ram temple embezzlement issue, accusing both parties of selectively targeting Hindu faith while remaining silent on matters related to Waqf.
Addressing a public gathering in Pratapgarh, Adityanath questioned the Opposition's stand, saying, “Why do those who attack Hindu faith have their mouths sealed with Fevicol in the name of Waqf? The real pain of the SP and Congress is that where they wanted to see the symbol of slavery, the Babri structure, a temple of Lord Ram has been built instead."
The chief minister also likened the two Opposition parties to a chameleon, alleging that they “change colours" to suit their political interests.
Adityanath made the remarks while inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for 111 development projects valued at more than Rs 384 crore in the Pratapgarh and Vishwanath Ganj constituencies.
Accusing the SP and the Congress of lacking a constructive political agenda, he said they had been left with only caste-based politics and attacks on matters of faith.
“The SP and Congress have no new issue. They are left with only two issues – division in the name of caste and attacks on faith," he said.
He further alleged that the Opposition was unhappy with Uttar Pradesh's development and the transformation of Ayodhya, citing improved roads, enhanced rail connectivity and better facilities for pilgrims.
“The Congress and SP, which supported the Babri structure in Ayodhya, have changed their colours like a chameleon. They are now claiming that faith is being insulted in Ayodhya. Since when have they developed faith in Ayodhya?" Yogi said.
Turning to the issue of Waqf properties, the chief minister accused the Opposition of maintaining silence over alleged irregularities. He claimed that thousands of hectares of land belonging to poor and weaker sections had been sold in the name of Waqf.
“Why are the mouths of Congress and SP sealed with Fevicol in the name of Waqf?" he asked, adding that the state government would continue taking action against any wrongdoing wherever evidence existed.
Adityanath also highlighted the state's development initiatives, saying Pratapgarh had experienced significant improvements in connectivity, healthcare and employment.
He asserted that his government had expanded employment opportunities for young people and alleged that previous administrations had failed to ensure a fair recruitment process.
“Earlier, the Saifai family used to loot jobs meant for the youth and auction them off, depriving meritorious candidates of employment," he said.
The chief minister added that the government remained committed to the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas" and claimed Uttar Pradesh had shed its earlier image as a backward state.
