Apple to use 100% recycled cobalt in batteries it designs by 2025
Additionally, magnets in Apple devices will use entirely recycled rare earth elements by 2025, and all Apple-designed printed circuit boards will use 100 per cent recycled tin soldering and 100 per cent recycled gold plating. In 2022, the company significantly expanded its use of key recycled metals, and now sources over two-thirds of all aluminium, nearly three-quarters of all rare earths, and more than 95 per cent of all tungsten in Apple products from 100 percent recycled material.
India saw 53% increase in ransomware attacks in 2022: CERT-In
Ransomware players targeted critical infrastructure organisations and disrupted critical services in order to pressurise and extract ransom payments in 2022, according to the "India Ransomware Report 2022". "Variant wise, Lockbit was a majorly seen variant in the Indian context followed by Makop and DJVU/Stop ransomware. Many new variants were observed in 2022 such as Vice society, BlueSky etc," said CERT-In.

Hackers target Indian account holders in tax-related smishing campaign: Report
According to cybersecurity company Sophos, the smish campaign consists of a text with a link addressed to customers of the most popular Indian banks. It sends a text falsely claiming that the recipient's bank account will be blocked, and telling the recipient to update their PAN and AADHAR card information on their accounts.

"There have been reports that state and federal government websites may be targeted" by an Indonesian "hacktivista organisation, according to a cybersecurity notice issued by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), a division of the Ministry of Home Affairs. According to the notice, the Indonesian cyber attack group is purportedly targeting 1,200 government websites in the country.
New malware in Discord can steal users' info, warn researchers
The team from CyberArk Labs spotted the malware called Vare that uses Discord's infrastructure as a backbone for its operations.This malware is linked to a new group called 'Kurdistan 4455' based out of southern Turkey and is still early in its forming stage, according to security researchers. The cyber-security firm contacted Discord and notified their support team on the different ways attackers misuse Discord's features, and of the new malware group.
WhatsApp's new security feature to double check if it's really you
Now, the company will double-check that it's really you when you switch your WhatsApp account to a new device -- using the 'Account Protect' feature. "From now on, we may ask you on your old device to verify that you want to take this step as an extra security check. This feature can help alert you to an unauthorised attempt to move your account to another device," WhatsApp said in a blogpost.
