Former UK PM John Major wants Boris Johnson dismissed as soon as possible
Major strongly feels it would be "unwise" to permit Johnson a three-month run as caretaker Prime Minister. "For the overall wellbeing of the country, Mr Johnson should not remain in Downing Street - when he is unable to command the confidence of the House of Commons - for any longer than necessary to effect the smooth transition of government," he wrote in a letter to the Chairman of the 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady.
Rishi Sunak third favourite to succeed Johnson, but there's no sign he will run
Bowing to the inevitable after mass resignations across his government, including that of top Cabinet ministers, Johnson on Thursday announced he is stepping down as leader of the Conservative Party, but will remain the UK Prime Minister till his replacement is chosen. The BBC reported: "A YouGov poll of 716 Conservative party members placed Ben Wallace just ahead of Penny Mordaunt, who was followed by Rishi Sunak."
Indian American lawmaker moves to exempt India from CAATSA sanctions
The Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions (CAATSA) Act seeks to punish Russia for interfering in the 2016 presidential election, among other things, by imposing stiff US sanctions on countries that buy Russian weapons. China and Turkey, a NATO member, have been sanctioned under this law since it was passed in 2017. India has been in the crosshairs for its purchase of S-400s, the Russian surface-to-air missile systems that have begun arriving in India, which would have technically triggered the sanction process, but hasn't yet.
Chinese govt set on stealing your technology, warn FBI and MI5 chiefs
At a joint event at MI5 headquarters in London, FBI Director Christopher Wray and MI5 Director General Ken McCallum warned that the Chinese government is set on stealing your technology, reports the BBC. "The Chinese government is set on stealing your technology -- whatever it is that makes your industry tick -- and using it to undercut your business and dominate your market," Wray said in his speech.
Nepal's Election Commission proposes general elections on November 18
During a meeting with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at Baluwatar, the official residence of the prime minister, Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Chandra Thapaliya and election commissioners recommended the date, a spokesperson for the commission Shaligram Sharma Poudel said.

Regarding the resignation, "the Prime Minister will make a statement to the country today", the BBC quoted a Downing Street spokesperson as saying. He had vowed to "keep going" following a wave of resignations from the government over his leadership but has now decided to step down.

CAPSTONE mission restores communications with NASA after blackout
"Mission operators have re-established contact with NASA's Cislunar Autonomous Positioning System Technology Operations and Navigation Experiment (CAPSTONE) spacecraft. Additional updates will be provided," NASA said in a statement. "We have re-established communications with CAPSTONE. 200 shot, killed in holiday weekend gun violence across US
Published tallies showed the number of weekend shootings was almost equal to the number of resulting injuries, with well over 500 instances of shootings documented nationwide between July 1-4, reports Xinhua news agency. There were only five states where one or more shootings were not reported in that time frame.

The Office however, said that the figures were "not final, as work continues to establish the data in places of active hostilities and in the temporarily occupied and liberated territories".
