Drone spotted over Indian High Commission in Islamabad, New Delhi lodges protest

"A drone was spotted over the premises of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan on 26th June. This has been taken up officially with the Govt of Pakistan. We expect Pakistan to investigate the incident and prevent recurrence of such breach of security," MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said at a media briefing.

A drone was spotted over the Indian High Commission complex in Pakistan last week, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that India has raised with the Pakistani government the issue of the security breach at its High Commission.

The spotting of the drone at the Indian High Commission in Pakistan assumes significance as it came a day after explosives-laden drones were used to carry out an attack on the Jammu Air Force station. J&K DGP Dilbag Singh had said that Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) could be behind the drone attack in Jammu.

India had raised the issue of terrorists using weaponized drones to attack strategic and commercial assets at the UN General Assembly as well.

"Today, misuse of information and communication technology such as internet and social media for terrorist propaganda, radicalisation and recruitment of cadre; misuse of new payment methods and crowdfunding platforms for financing of terrorism; and misuse of emerging technologies for terrorist purposes have emerged as the most serious threats of terrorism and will decide the counter-terrorism paradigm going forward," Special Secretary (Internal Security), Ministry of Home Affairs in the Government of India, V S K Kaumudi said while addressig the second High-Level Conference of the Head of Counter-Terrorism Agencies of the Member States in the General Assembly.
