Delhi to remain shut till May 17, Metro services also suspended

Announcing 'lockdown extension' through a digital press conference on Sunday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, "Delhi had imposed lockdown on April 20 and has been extended again. With the support from people of Delhi cases have started to come down in the last few days and the positivity rate is also down to 23 per cent. However, we are not in a situation to give any relaxation in restrictions."

State Additional Chief Secretary, Information, Navneet Sehgal said it would be like a partial corona curfew. During this time all necessary services will continue as before. In view of the fast spreading infections in the villages after the panchayat elections and the festival of Eid on May 14, the Yogi Adityanath government has extended the lockdown for a week, the official said.

Covid 19 update: 4,092 deaths in India as fresh cases go over 4.03L in last 24 hours

It is the fifth time after May 1 that India has crossed the four-lakh-mark of new Covid cases. On Friday, India recorded the highest ever 4,14,188 cases. In the past 17 days India's daily Covid tally has risen by over three lakh cases and over 3,000 casualties have been reported for the last 11 days. India's total tally of Covid-19 cases now stands at 2,22,96,414 with 37,36,648 active cases and a total of 2,42,362 deaths so far.
Indian Army inducts first batch of 83 women soldiers into Military Police

The attestation parade was held at the Dronacharya Parade Ground of the Corps of Military Police Centre & School (CMPC&S) here. The low-key event was held following all the Covid-19 protocols, the Army said. The Indian Army was originally preparing to induct 100 young women soldiers. However, 17 recruits were relegated on medical grounds or had failed in the tests, the Army said in a statement.

In the polls, Kamal Haasan's party was not able to win any seat. Kamal Haasan, touted as the Chief Ministerial candidate, was defeated by BJP candidate Vanathi Srinivasan in Coimbatore (South) constituency. Similar was the case with DMDK floated by another actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth. While Vijayakanth was not able to contest due to his health condition, his wife and party Treasurer Premalatha lost badly in Virudhachalam seat.
Tested Centre's formula, Delhi needs 700 MT O2 per day: Sisodia

The remarks of Sisodia, who is also the nodal minister for Covid management in Delhi, came a day after the BJP-led Centre blamed the Delhi government for demanding oxygen more than its actual need and demanded for an audit of oxygen supply on the basis of number of patients in the national capital. Sisodia said that Delhi requires a minimum of 700 MT oxygen supply daily to cater to the growing number of patients.

No lockdown violation by farm activists to be allowed: Punjab CM

Amid the call of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha to oppose the weekend lockdown, the Chief Minister had on Friday asked the Director-General of Police to strictly enforce all the weekend restrictions and not allow any violation at any cost. Despite the farmer leaders' appeals to the shopkeepers, shops across the state largely remained closed in the state on Saturday.
