Covid crisis can impact child nutrition in India: UNICEF
"With 27 million births and 30 million pregnancies every year, life-saving services to help women give birth are critical in India," said Yasmin Ali Haque, UNICEF Representative in India, on Friday. "However, as health facilities continue to be overwhelmed treating Covid-19 patients, there are reports of pregnant women struggling to find the required support to give birth."
Stalin announces two-week lockdown in Tamil Nadu starting May 10
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday announced total lockdown in Tamil Nadu between May 10-24 to prevent spread of coronavirus. He also said with the impending two week lockdown from Monday onwards all shops and establishments are allowed to function from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. In a statement issued here Stalin said the two week lockdown is announced to intensify actions to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Covid 19 Update: Record 4,187 deaths in India, as fresh cases mount to 4.01L
It is the fourth time after May 1 that India has crossed the four-lakh-mark of new cases in last 24 hours. On Friday, India recorded 4,14,188 cases. It also breached the maximum deaths in 24 hours. On May 6, India recorded 3,980 deaths the highest till then. In the past 16 days India has continued with over three lakh cases and over 3,000 casualties have for last 10 days.
Fire breaks out onboard INS Vikramaditya
The duty staff observed smoke emanating from the part of ship having accommodation for the sailors. The ship's personnel on duty acted immediately to fight the blaze and there are no reports of any casualties in the incident. "All personnel onboard have been accounted for and no major damage has been reported. An inquiry into the incident is being ordered," said the official.

Mamata writes to PM, seeks 550 MT oxygen per day
Stressing on the need of uninterrupted supply of oxygen in view of the rising caseload in the state, the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "It (oxygen requirement) has gone up to 470 MT per day in the last 24 hours and is expected to increase to 550 MT in the next seven to eight days." "The Chief Secretary has already taken up the matter with the Union Health Secretary for urgent allocation of 550 MT medical oxygen to Bengal." she added.
PM reviews Covid situation in three NE states
Officials said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the situation related to health care facilities and vaccination in these states. Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb thanked the Prime Minister for sending 60 oxygen concentrators. "Thank you Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji & GOI for providing 60 oxygen concentrators to help people of Tripura in its battle against Covid-19." Deb said in a tweet.
Oxygen supply increased, hospitals to have more Covid beds: Kejriwal
"Now that Delhi has received oxygen, no one in Delhi should suffer because of shortage of oxygen. All the hospitals in Delhi should increase their beds. District Magistrates have been directed to ensure adequate oxygen beds in their districts so that no deaths happen due to lack of oxygen in Delhi," Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said in a statement.
Telecom industry cautions against rumours of 5G causing Covid
In a joint statement on Friday, the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) and the Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA) expressed their concern regarding false rumours connecting 5G technology with the spread of Covid-19.
