Assembly Elections: Nearly 80% turnout in first phase of Bengal polls, Over 77 % in Assam
According to EC sources, in West Bengal, about 80.03 per cent of the electorate voted in Bankura, 80.55 per cent in Jhargram, 80.16 per cent in West Midnapore and 82.42 per cent in East Midnapore district. In Assam, over 77 per cent of 8,109,815 voters cast their votes on Saturday in the first phase of the state's Assembly polls which were conducted in 47 of the 126 Assembly constituencies, election officials said.

President Ram Nath Kovind referred to AIIMS
President Kovind was admitted the Army's Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi on Friday morning after a chest discomfort. The 75-year-old President had complained of chest discomfort in the morning and thereafter he was rushed to the military hospital. "He is being referred to AIIMS, Delhi for further investigation," the hospital said in a statement.

Voting begins for 1st phase of Assam assembly polls
Men and women in large numbers queued up in front of the polling stations well before the voting for 47 of the total of 126 assembly seats opened at 7 a.m. The polling would continue till 6 p.m. A total of 8,109,815 voters, including 4,032,481 females, are eligible to cast their votes across 11,537 polling stations mostly covering the eastern Assam's 14 districts.

SC orders transfer of gangster Mukhtar Ansari from Punjab to UP
A bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan directed that Ansari be handed over to UP within two weeks, and then lodged in Banda jail. The top court allowed the UP government Article 32 petition seeking transfer of Ansari to a UP jail from Punjab. Article 32 deals with the ''Right to Constitutional Remedies'', and gives the right to move the apex court for enforcement of the rights conferred in the Constitution.
