4 UP officers demoted as peon, watchman

Narsingh, who was posted as additional district information officer in Bareilly, has been demoted as peon, while Daya Shankar, an additional district information officer in Firozabad, has been asked to join his previous posting as a watchman. Similarly, Vinod Kumar Sharma and Anil Kumar Singh, who were promoted as additional district information officer in Mathura and Bhadohi, respectively, will again work on their previous profile as cinema operator-cum-communication assistant.
UP: Man dies after being set ablaze by own family

The victim, identified as Mohammad Aamir has succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the hospital on Friday night and his last rites were performed by his distant relatives and neighbours on Saturday evening. Before his death, Aamir gave a statement to the police saying that his daughter, son, wife and his nephew poured petrol on him and set him ablaze after he objected to his daughter's affair.
President approves Industrial Disputes (Gujarat Amendment) Bill, 2020

According to the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, establishments having 100 or more workers were required to seek prior permission of the state government before effecting layoffs, retrenchment, or closure. The number of workers has been increased to 300 in the recent amendment.
Mortal remains of ex-Gujarat CM Madhavsinh Solanki to be brought to Congress headquarters on Sunday

According to Jayrajsinh Parmar, Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesperson, the mortal remains will be kept at the Bhavan between 3 pm and 5 pm when supporters and well-wishers could pay their final respect to the late Congress veteran. Solanki breathed his last at his residence in Gandhinagar on Saturday morning.
Bird Flu Outbreak: Confirmed in 7 states, test reports from elsewhere awaited

As per a statement issued by the ministry, after confirmation of avian influenza (AI) positive samples by the ICAR-NIHSAD from two poultry farms in Panchkula district in Haryana, positive cases of bird flu in migratory birds were reported in Shivpuri, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Agar and Vidisha district in Madhya Pradesh, the zoological park in Kanpur, and Pratapgarh and Dausa districts of Rajasthan.
76% of Covid-19 patients reported at least 1 ongoing symptom: The Lancet

The study, published in the prestigious journal The Lancet, reveals that 76 per cent of patients reported at least one ongoing symptom. Fatigue or muscle weakness was reported by 63 per cent, while 26 per cent had sleep difficulties and 23 per cent experienced anxiety or depression, the Wuhan-based study indicated.
Bird Flu Outbreak: Delhi bans import of live birds from Saturday

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made the announcement through a digital press conference and made it clear that "there is not a single confirmed bird flu case in Delhi so far". As a precautionary measure, the Chief Minister said the government has decided to impose a complete ban on the import of live birds into the city with immediate effect. Kejriwal also announced the closure of the Ghazipur chicken mandi for the next 10 days.
All women Air India crew set to pilot 17-hour flight from San Francisco to Bengaluru

According to a statement issued by Air India, "The flight will be operated by an all women cockpit crew of Capt Zoya Aggarwal (P1), Capt Papagari Thanmai (P1), Capt Akansha Sonaware (P2) and Capt Shivani Manhas (P2)." Notably, the direct distance between Bengaluru and San Francisco is approximately 13,993 km and the cities are diametrically at opposite ends of the world with a time zone change of about 13.5 hours.
Covid-19 vaccination drive to kick off in India on January 16

The roll-out of Covid-19 vaccine will give priority to the healthcare and frontline workers who are estimated to be around 3 crore, followed by those above 50 years of age and the under-50 population groups with comorbidities numbering around 27 crore.
