Shinzo Abe, Japan's longest-serving Prime Minister, was assassinated on July 8 after a gunman had opened fire at him from behind when he was delivering an election campaign speech in Nara prefecture.

India logs 5,443 new Covid-19 cases, 26 deaths
The new fatalities increased the nationwide death toll to 5,28,429. The active caseload at 46,342 accounts for 0.10 per cent of the country's total positive cases. The recovery of 5,291 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,39,78,271. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.71 per cent.
NIA raids SDPI, PFI linked places in Karnataka; 60 detained amid protest
Sources confirmed that the sleuths of NIA also raided an apartment in the Richmond Town in Bengaluru. More details are yet to emerge in this matter. The raids have also been conducted in Sirsi and Koppal cities of Karnataka. Sources said that NIA has raided 12 locations and arrested two persons. The raids are being conducted in the backdrop of the murder of BJP Yuva Morcha activist Praveen Kumar Nettare near Mangaluru recently.
Congress issues notification for president's poll
According to the notification, while the nomination forms will be available from Thursday, the filing of nominations will be held between September 24 and 30. Scrutiny of nomination will take place on October 1, and the same day, a valid candidate list will be published. The last date of withdrawal is October 8 following which, a final list will be brought out.
Jaishankar, officials pursue India's global agenda at multilateral, bilateral levels
On Wednesday, Jaishankar participated in the Global Crisis Response Group roundtable on food, energy and finance convened by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Attorney General K.K. Venugopal and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, submitted before a five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice U.U. Lalit, that the 103rd constitutional amendment was valid. They emphasised that it was done in furtherance of Article 46, which says state would promote with special care the educational and economic interests of the weaker sections.

Live-streaming of SC constitution bench hearing to begin from Sep 27
Next week onwards, all constitution bench hearings in the Supreme Court will be live-streamed. On Tuesday, a full court, which comprised all judges of the apex court, discussed the matter and decided on live-streaming proceedings. According to people familiar with the development, judges agreed that live-streaming could begin from September 27, with the broadcasting of constitutional cases on a regular basis.
