SpiceJet aircraft faces massive turbulence while landing; 40 injured

Around 40 passengers received minor injuries after the overhead cabin luggage fell on them. The flight was coming from Mumbai. SpiceJet authorities have confirmed the event of the Mumbai-Andal flight facing air-turbulence at the time of landing. Andal Airport sources said that the injured passengers were immediately rushed to a local hospital. While some of them were discharged after giving first-aid, others are still under treatment. All of them are said to be out of danger.

India calls for cessation of hostility in Ukraine ahead of Modi's Europe visit

In a special briefing on Sunday, newly-appointed Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra underlined India's position on Ukraine. "Our position on Ukraine has been clear. First, there should be a cessation of hostilities; second, a solution must be found out through dialogue and diplomacy," he said, adding India's view has been known clearly to various countries.

Delhi discoms to get as much power as requisitioned: Centre

Union Power Minister R.K. Singh reviewed the power situation and the coal stock situation at thermal plants, including those that supply power to Delhi's discoms, and told media persons after the review meeting that the power discoms would get as much power as they have requisitioned. At the meeting, the state-owned companies, including the NTPC, were directed by the Minister to provide full availability to the power discoms - including Tata Power, BSES Rajdhani and BSES Yamuna.
Examining issues on local language in courts, adequate security: CJI

The Chief Justice along with Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju was briefing the press on developments in the meeting held with chief ministers and chief justices of high courts. The Chief Justice, while responding to a query on breach in security at court complexes, said: "I have raised that issue with chief ministers. They assured that they will provide adequate security... in Jammu and Kashmir there is a system, two level protection system, which we suggested for other courts also."
Gen Manoj Pande takes over as new Indian Army chief

20 judges per 10 lakh population is alarmingly low: Chief Justice

The CJI emphasized that policy making is not the court’s domain, but if a citizen moves, the courts cannot say no. He made the remarks while addressing the 11th joint conference of Chief Ministers and Chief Justices. “Please be generous in creating more posts and filling the same, so that our judge-to-population ratio is comparable to advanced democracies. As per sanctioned strength, we have just around 20 judges per 10 lakh population, which is alarmingly low,” he said.
