India asks UN to recognize ‘Hinduphobia’ and violence against Buddhists, Sikhs too

T S Tirumurti,  India’s permanent representative to UN, on Thursday, pointed out that the UN has been highlighting certain kinds of religious phobias like Islamophobia, Christianophobia, and anti-Semitism but it has not recognized new forms of religiophobia including Hinduphobia as well as anti-Buddhist and anti-Sikh phobias.
Amar Jawan Jyoti to be extinguished, merged with eternal flame at War Memorial

The eternal flame known as Amar Jawan Jyoti was built in 1972 underneath the India Gate arch to commemorate the soldiers martyred in the Indo-Pak War of 1971. It is a memorial symbolised by an inverted bayonet and soldier's helmet over it with an eternal flame burning beside it. The existence of Amar Jawan Jyoti was questioned two years ago after the National War Memorial came into being and the nation got a new eternal flame there.

Abdul Nazeer and Krishna Murari said: "The main scheme of this Act is to establish complete equality between male and female with regard to property rights and the rights of the female were declared absolute, completely abolishing all notions of a limited estate."
Rains in Jan's first three weeks 222% more, Jan 11-19 saw most intense fog

Excess rainfall in the first three week of January - 31.2 mm as against normal 9.7 mm, marking a departure of a whopping 222 per cent, said IMD. During the same time, i.e., the first three week of January, east and northeast India received 12.7 mm against 9.3 mm (36% departure) northwest India received 60.1 mm against normal of 17.4 mm (245%), central India received 21.3 mm rainfall as against the normal of 4.5 mm (373% departure) while the south Peninsula received 18.2 mm against 6.8 mm (168% departure).
Delhi's maximum temperature up, nears season's usual average

Providing some respite from the coldwave being witnessed for the past few days, Delhi on Thursday recorded a maximum temperature of 19-degree Celsius -- two notches below season's usual temperature -- and a minimum temperature of 9.8-degree Celsius, three notches above the season's average, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Kashmiris cannot be weaned away from Sufism

The problem was that Jinnah never tried to understand centuries old influences that moulded the Kashmiri character and produced unique Sufism influenced by Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam. Had Jinnah tried to understand, he would have understood the logic in Sheikh Abdullah's rejection of the two-nation theory. Shrines in Srinagar are regularly venerated by Hindu and Muslim devotees alike. In other words, the influence of Sufism makes them one. Both pray the same way.
Rainfall in Delhi, NW India but not on Jan 26, dense fog likely: IMD

IMD as part of its extended range forecast issued for the period January 20 to February 2, on Thursday predicted rainfall in the run up to January 26 but not on that Republic Day itself. A Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation lies over north Pakistan and neighbourhood, an induced cyclonic circulation lies over central parts of Rajasthan, a fresh active Western Disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from January 21 onwards, it said.
India, Sri Lanka extend S&T cooperation for next three years

We will take decision on the basis of scientific data in this regard," he said while addressing the media on the current Covid surge in India. NITI Aayog's Member, Health, Dr V.K. Paul said that vaccinating this age bracket is an important objective. "We will take decision on this when we will have compete scientific evidence," he said.

Subhavati Devi's husband Upendra Dutt Shukla, a well-known Brahmin face, had lost the by-election in Gorakhpur in 2018 on the seat vacated by Yogi Adityanath. Pravin Nishad of Samajwadi Party had won the bypoll.
