Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay might not go to Delhi on Monday

Bandopadhyay, who was supposed to retire on May 31, got an extension of three months on May 24 to continue as the Chief Secretary of the state. He was given the extension by the Centre on the basis of a request of the state government but on May 28, the Centre's Department of Personnel and Training wrote a letter to the state urging Bandopadhyay to be present before the department at 10 a.m. on May 31.

At 78, Delhi's daily Covid deaths lowest since April 12

According to the health bulletin, the 78 new deaths pushed the toll to 24,151. The city's daily Covid deaths during the second wave of the pandemic crossed the 100-mark on April 14, when it had clocked 104 fatalities and since then the daily death count increased to 448 on May 3. Delhi also witnessed dip in daily number of positive cases below 1,000

Dalit minor girl raped in UP

The police said the girl, a student of class 8, had gone out of her house early in the morning when the accused dragged her into his shop and raped her. In his complaint, the girl's elder brother said that when the family noticed that she had been missing, they started searching for her and heard her screaming from a shop locked from inside.
Covid 19 Update: India reports 1.65L cases, lowest since April 12

This is for the fourth time since April 12 that India has recorded less than two lakh cases of Covid. On May 25, India had recorded 1.96 lakh cases of Covid, 1,86,364 cases on May 28 and 1,73,790 cases on May 29. The fatalities have also remained below 4,000 for four consecutive days. India's overall tally of Covid-19 cases now stands at 2,78,94,800 with 21,14,508 active cases and 3,25,972 deaths so far.
Govt to provide pension to families who lost earning member due to Covid

In addition to the measures announced under PM CARES for Children- Empowerment of Covid affected children, the government has announced further measures to help families who have lost the earning member due to Covid, a Prime Minister's Office (PMO) statement said. "They will provide pension to families of those who died due to Covid and an enhanced and liberalised insurance compensation."
