Cyclone Yaas begins landfall, likely to cross Odisha-Bengal in 3 hours

Cyclone Yaas lay centred at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday over northwest Bay of Bengal near latitude 21.21 degree north and longitude 87.1 degree east, about 45 km north-northeast of Dhamra, 60 km southwest of Digha and 40 km south-southeast of Balasore, said National Weather Forecasting Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

On Monday, India crossed a grim milestone of three-lakh deaths due to the coronavirus infections, thus becoming world's third country after the US and Brazil to cross three-lakh deaths. In the last 15 days India has recorded over 60,000 deaths. India's overall tally of Covid-19 cases now stands at 27,11,57,795 with 24,95,591 active cases and 3,11,388 deaths so far. On Tuesday, India recorded 1,96,427 cases -- the lowest since April 14.
Shoddy probe led to Tejpal's acquittal on 'benefit of doubt': Court

The judgement was passed on May 21, but excerpts of the 500-odd page judgement were made available in the public domain late on Tuesday, that also pointed out to loopholes in the police investigation into the eight-year-old crime, in which Tejpal was accused of allegedly raping his junior colleague in the elevator of a five star resort in North Goa in 2013.
WhatsApp sues India over new IT rules, says user privacy supreme

Reliable sources told IANS on Wednesday that the messaging giant has filed the case against the Indian government in Delhi High Court, as the deadline to comply with the new IT (intermediary) rules 2021 meant for big social media platforms in India ended on Tuesday. WhatsApp said that new rules infringe on users' privacy.

Goa government moves HC against Tarun Tejpal acquittal

"The government has filed an appeal against the acquittal with the Bombay High Court bench in Goa,". The former Editor-in-Chief of the Tehelka investigative magazine had been accused by a junior colleague of sexually assaulting her at a five star resort in Goa. On May 21, the Additional District and Sessions Court in North Goa had acquitted Tejpal from all the charges.
Bharat Biotech expects WHO approval for Covaxin by July-Sep

The Hyderabad-based company stated that application for Emergency Use Listing (EUL) has been submitted to WHO, Geneva and regulatory approvals are expected by July-September 2021. It also said regulatory approvals for Covaxin are in process in more than 60 countries including the United States, Brazil and Hungary.
