England opener Ben Duckett acknowledged the challenge posed by India's fast bowlers, emphasizing that facing the seam attack at the top of the order would be tough, irrespective of pitch conditions. While much attention is on England's batters versus India's spin attack, Duckett highlighted the quality of India's fast-bowling unit.
During England's 2021 tour of India, they won the opening game but struggled against the spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel, eventually losing the series 3-1. For the upcoming series, India's spin department includes Ashwin, Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav. In the fast-bowling unit, despite missing Mohammed Shami due to injury, India has Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, and Avesh Khan.
Duckett, who made his Test debut in 2016 and has been a regular since 2022, emphasized the need for preparation against the new ball spin. He mentioned that facing India's seam attack would be tough, regardless of the pitch conditions.
Having played in India previously, Duckett believes he won't be shocked by the conditions and expressed confidence in his ability to face the challenges posed by the spinners. He mentioned that maturity and experience would play a crucial role, and he won't feel the need to play aggressive shots or sweep every ball on spinning pitches.
Duckett acknowledged Ashwin's world-class bowling and expressed his readiness to face the challenge, knowing what to expect on Indian pitches. He concluded by stating that he won't die wondering and would back himself to play to his strengths in different conditions.
