PM Modi to launch torch relay for 44th Chess Olympiad on June 19

FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich will hand over the torch to PM Modi, who in turn will hand it over to Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand. This torch will then be taken to 75 cities in 40 days before the final culmination at Mahabalipuram near Chennai. At every location, chess Grandmasters of the state will receive the torch.

Karthik made it back into the India limited-overs side for the five-match T20I series against South Africa after giving commanding displays during IPL 2022 season for Royal Challengers Bangalore. "I am very happy, very proud. It's an incredible atmosphere and team to be part of. For about three years, I've been looking from outside. I've been looking at how special it is to be a part of this team. I am enjoying and very grateful for every second I am here," Karthik told BCCI.TV.

The 18-year-old Gauff won the first seven games of the match, but needed to come from a break down in the second set. Wang broke her serve for the first time at 1-1, but Gauff won five of the last six games of the match. On the other hand, Veronika Kudermetova sealed the final quarterfinal berth with a 6-3. 6-7(5), 6-1 win over defending champion Liudmila Samsonova.
Dropped from CWG squad, TT player Archana Kamath moves court

Before Archana, Diya Chitale had approached the Delhi High Court over her exclusion from the women's CWG squad but she was included in the side by the Committee of Administrators (CoA). In the decision, the CoA has put paddler Chitale in the women's double with Manika Batra, which was earlier reported to be with Archana Kamath.
Sri Lanka stage fine comeback; level ODI series vs Australia 1-1

In the first match at the same venue, Sri Lanka had put up 300 on the board, although rain played spoilsport as Australia took the game away with a two-wicket win on the DLS method. The hosts' top-three made fifties while Charith Asalanka contributed with a steady 37 before Wanindu Hasaranga helped push his team's total to the 300-mark with a fiery 19-ball 37.

In the first T20I in Delhi, Rassie van der Dussen had smashed Harshal for three sixes and a four in an over to turn the game around. After the match, the Proteas had said that post the first two sixes, he knew Harshal would turn to his slower balls. "People have been trying to anticipate for the past two years. After ending the tournament with nine wickets from six matches at an economy rate of 9.71, Nortje has scalped three wickets in as many games at an economy rate of 9.50 in the ongoing T20I series against India.
German Open: Ons Jabeur, Belinda Bencic reach quarterfinals

No 1 seed Jabeur beat qualifier Alycia Parks 6-2, 7-6 (8), which put her into her eighth quarterfinal of 2022, all at WTA 500 level or above. She will next face Aliaksandra Sasnovich as she bids to reach a fourth semifinal of the season. The 21-year-old Parks acquitted herself well in her first career meeting with a player ranked inside the Top 20.
Indonesia Open: HS Prannoy advances to quarterfinals after beating NG Ka Long

India's only remaining challenge at the BWF Super 1000 event, Prannoy, ranked 23rd in the badminton rankings, defeated world No 12 Angus 21-11, 21-18 in the men's singles Round of 16 match at the Istoria Stadium. The 29-year old Prannoy settled early and kept his higher-ranked opponent on toes from the start, countering Long's speed efficiently with precise returns.
