Commonwealth Esports Championships 2022: Indian teams seal berth in DOTA2, Rocket League
Led by captain Hargun Singh, India's Rocket League team, which included Nirjhar Mehta and Rushil Reddy Yarram, won all three matches in the regional qualifiers to claim the top spot. The qualifiers happened virtually. On the other hand, the Indian DOTA2 team, comprising captain Moin Ejaz, Ketan Goyal, Abhishek Yadav, Shubham Goli, and Vishal Vernekar, finished second behind Pakistan to make the cut for the Commonwealth Esports Championships.

World championships silver medallist Srikanth, 11th in the badminton rankings, lost to 41st-ranked Brice Leverdez of France 21-23, 10-21 in 42 minutes at the Istora Stadium. Srikanth narrowly led Brice Leverdez 11-10 at the first break. However, Leverdez chipped away points regularly and eked out a close win. The 36-year-old Leverdez took the former world No 1 Srikanth by a complete surprise in the second game and sealed his first win against Indian shuttler in six attempts.

All rounder Hardik Pandya was on Wednesday appointed captain of the Indian cricket team for the T20I series against Ireland, set to be played later this month. The 17-member squad named by the All-India Senior Selection Committee doesn't feature India's Test team regulars who will directly fly to England to prepare for the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston, scheduled to be played from July 1.

Root, who had reached within striking distance of Marnus Labuschagne after the first Test, has wrested back the top spot from the Australia batter, whom he now leads by five rating points. Root is on 897 points after his knock of 176 in the first innings of the Nottingham Test, 20 less than his highest of 917 points, according to ICC. Root first grabbed number one position in August 2015 and was last at the top in December 2021 before Labuschagne leapfrogged him.

The richest cricket board in the world is going to get richer as each IPL match from 2023 will help them earn Rs 118 crore, which is nearly double (1.96 times) that of an India home game. The average value of each India home game -- as per a five-year deal bagged by Star India, in 2018, worth Rs 6,138 crore -- is Rs 60 crore.
