Apart from Smriti's knock of 61, laced with eight fours and three sixes, Jemimah Rodrigues applied finishing touches with an unbeaten 44 off 31 balls, hitting seven fours while Deepti Sharma hit a 20-ball 22, including two fours. For England, left-arm pacer Freya Kemp was pick of bowlers, taking 2-22 while Katherine Brunt and captain Nat Sciver took a wicket apiece.

India win toss, elect to bat first against England in first semi-final
Whoever wins on Saturday will progress towards the gold medal match while the losing side will enter the bronze medal match. England topped Group B by winning all three of their matches while India finished second in Group A, winning two out of their three matches. For the knockout matches in the competition, teams will be playing on the traditional turf pitches instead of the hybrid ones, where natural grass and artificial surfaces were used in the group matches.

The Savita Punia-led India team fought valiantly in the semifinal in the regulation time which ended in 1-1 but missed out on converting their attempts in the shootout. Ambrosia Malone, Amy Lawton and Kaitlin Nobbs scored goals for Australia in the shootout. Rebecca Greiner (10th min) scored the solitary goal for Australia while Vandana Katariya (49th) was the lone scorer from the Indian side. The Australian team started the game with the intent to put early pressure while the Indians kept their calm as they looked to create opportunities early on.

India A, though, suffered a few hiccups after Humpy ended on the losing side in the first game. However, Tania Sachdev and R Vaishali once again rose to the occasion magnificently by scoring hard fought victories while Harika Dronavalli also battled hard to split the point. Vaishali played splendidly in a drawn position, pressurising her opponent with precise positive play and finally scoring a delightful victory. A hall mark of the women's A team has been the ability of every player to score a win when the team needed it most.
CWG 2022: Wrestler Deepak Punia wins Indo-Pak bout, bags third gold for India
Deepak Punia won the bout 3-0 on points to claim his first gold medal in Commonwealth Games. It was a bout between wrestlers from arch-rivals India and Pakistan but it did not live up to that hype as Punia imposed himself on his opponent early and did not give him many chances. Scoring chances were few as the Pakistani wrestler was totally defensive and his movements too were a bit restricted. He had his left leg strapped at the knee and looked to keep it away from any attack.
India beat Bangladesh 5-2 to emerge SAFF U20 Champions
Both teams were locked 1-1 at the interval, and 2-2 after completion of regulation time. Gurkirat scored in the 1st, 60th, 94th and the 99th minutes respectively, while Himanshu scored in the 92nd minute. For Bangladesh, Rajon Howladar and Shahin Mia scored in the 44th and 48th minutes. The intent was positive, and despite the Indians creating chances all throughout, they stayed guilty of being a bit complacent wasting quite a few. Rival goalkeeper Md. Asif also made it difficult for the blue colts on certain occasions.

Anshu Malik lost in the final while Mohit Grewal and Divya Kakran bagged a bronze each as India came off the wrestling mat on Friday with three gold, one silver and two bronze medals. This took India's tally to 9 gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze medals for a total of 26 medals so far in Birmingham. In lawn bowls, the Indian Men's Fours set themselves to emulate their woman counterparts as they reached the final, beating England 13-12 in the semifinal and set up themselves for a summit clash.

Sakshi, who seemed to have gone off the boil after her success in the Rio Olympics, missing some events and got upstages by younger opponents, made a brilliant comeback both in her bout on Friday and her career as she stomped her authority. Her opponent, who had come to Canada from Mexico at a very young age with her family seeking political asylum, is strong grappler having won medals in World Championships
CWG 2022: Bajrang Punia retains gold medal with aggressive win in 65kg
Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist Punia, who won gold medal four years ago in Gold Coast, came out with aggressive intentions and did not allow his young Canadian opponent much chances, forcing two takedowns in the first period itself to go 4-0 up. The Canadian was a bit too defensive in the first period but launched a good attack at the start of the second period to reduce the margin to 2-4.
