Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has refuted reports associating him with BCCI president's post, with his management team releasing a forceful clarification on Thursday.
“It has come to our attention that certain reports and rumours have been circulating regarding Mr. Sachin Tendulkar being considered, or nominated, for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). We wish to categorically state that no such development has taken place. We urge all concerned to refrain from giving credence to unfounded speculations," read a statement from SRT Sports Management Pvt Ltd.
Speculation about Tendulkar’s possible entry into cricket administration had gathered momentum ahead of the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 28, where elections will take place for key positions, including the president and IPL chairman. Tendulkar, however, has unequivocally distanced himself from the chatter.
The post of the president became vacant earlier in the month when Roger Binny resigned after turning 70. In the meantime, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal stands to undergo a compulsory cooling-off period after serving six consecutive years in office.
Even with these developments, the majority of the present office-bearers are likely to continue. Secretary Devajit Saikia, who took Shah's place when Shah became ICC chairman, is set to continue. Joint secretary Rohan Gauns Desai and treasurer Prabhtej Bhatia are also set to continue in their posts.
Binny, who took over as president in October 2022, was set to serve until the AGM. His untimely exit set the rumour mill going on possible successors, with Tendulkar's name being one of them. But now, the legendary batsman's management has put the speculation to rest, assuring that he is not in the running for the leadership position.
