Wimbledon delights internet with 'Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill' tribute to cricket icons

Wimbledon paid tribute to three generations of Indian cricket stars with a social media post featuring Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill at the Championships, delighting fans of both cricket and tennis.

The post quickly gained traction online, with fans celebrating the appearance of three of India's most prominent cricketers at the iconic Grand Slam event.

Earlier in the day, Tendulkar praised the standard of tennis on display after watching the men's singles semifinals from Centre Court. He described Jannik Sinner's display as a "masterclass" while also commending the performances of Alexander Zverev and Britain's Arthur Fery.

The former India captain was among a host of sporting personalities seated in Wimbledon's Royal Box as Zverev defeated Britain's Arthur Fery to secure a place in his maiden Wimbledon final. Later, Sinner sealed his spot in the championship match with a commanding victory over Serbian great Novak Djokovic.

Tendulkar was accompanied by former West Indies captain Brian Lara, with the legendary batters sharing Centre Court after years of competing as international rivals before later featuring together in charity matches.

Current India Test captain Shubman Gill was also present for the semifinal action, adding another leading figure from Indian cricket to the occasion.

The Royal Box also welcomed several football personalities, including Liverpool and Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk, while Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe was among the distinguished guests.

Reflecting on the day's action in a post on X, Tendulkar praised the quality of both semifinal encounters.

"Wimbledon, you never disappoint! What a privilege to witness two brilliant semifinals today. The fight and belief shown by Fery was wonderful to watch, while Zverev's big serve played a crucial role in a hard-fought win," Tendulkar wrote.

He also reserved special praise for world No. 1 Jannik Sinner after the Italian defeated seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets.

"And then came Jannik Sinner's masterclass. The way he combined power with control across every shot was remarkable. Novak competed till the very end, but Jannik was at his absolute best today," he added.

Tendulkar ended his message by celebrating the spirit of elite sport and looking ahead to the tournament's showpiece match.
