The minister told IANS that the demand for storing data locally keeps growing as more and more global companies open their data centres in the country, like Amazon, Microsoft, Google and others. "I believe the government incentives should be directed at creating an innovative India Cloud that caters to our people. We need diversity in the Cloud in the country," stressed Chandrasekhar, as the world observed the International Data Center Day on Wednesday.
Google launches early access to its AI chatbot Bard

The early access to Bard has rolled out in the US and UK, and the company said it will expand the access over time to more countries and languages. "You can use Bard to boost your productivity, accelerate your ideas and fuel your curiosity. You might ask Bard to give you tips to reach your goal of reading more books this year, explain quantum physics in simple terms or spark your creativity by outlining a blogpost," Google said in a blogpost.
Instagram now puts ads in user search results

Ads will show up in the feed that people can scroll when they tap into a post from search results. "We plan to launch this placement globally in the coming months," the company said in a blog post. Instagram also announced 'Reminder' ads which are rolling out to all advertisers as an option in feed. The move is to help advertisers.

According to information security company Mandiant, products of Microsoft, Google and Apple made up the majority of zero-day vulnerabilities in 2022, consistent with the previous years, and the most exploited product types were operating systems (19), followed by browsers (11), security, IT, and network management products (10), and mobile OS (six).

"The Index has been built with a focus on five core pillars of identity, devices, network, applications, and data, and examines organisational postures in securing these," said Vish Iyer, Vice President, Architectures, Cisco APJC.

Amazon deepens tech gloom as 503 firms lay off 1.5 lakh employees

According to latest data from layoff.fyi, a website that is tracking tech sector job cuts, 503 tech companies have laid off 148,165 employees to date. After a dismal year for tech companies and startups in 2022 which saw at least 1.6 lakh employees being shown the door, 2023 started on a similar note. About 1,046 tech companies -- from Big Tech to startups -- laid off more than 1.61 lakh employees last year.

Twitter testing govt ID-based verification for Blue users: Report

The method for submitting a photo of the users' ID, both front and back, combined with a selfie photo, to authenticate their Twitter account is revealed through code-level insights uncovered by the product intelligence firm Watchful.ai, reports TechCrunch. However, it is still unclear whether the feature is being tested externally. According to the firm, the feature is in testing in the US, where it was found in the Android version of the Twitter application.
