Australia on Monday joined the United Kingdom and the United States in sanctioning key Russian oligarchs, including Roman Abramovich, owner of the English Premier League football club Chelsea. The Scott Morrison government announced on Monday fresh sanctions on 33 Russian oligarchs, prominent businesspeople and their immediate family members.
2 killed as Russian shelling hits Kiev apartment building
At least two people were killed on Monday after a nine-story apartment building in Kiev was struck by Russian shelling, Ukraine's State Emergency Service (SES) said. The building has been partially destroyed between the ground floor and the second floor, and a fire broke out on the second and third floors, reports Ukrayinska Pravda citing the SES as saying.

No foreign forces present on the archipelago: Maldives Defence Ministry
The Defence Ministry has also clarified that no foreign armed forces will be active at the Uthuru Thilafalhu (UTF) base where the Coast Guard dock and dockyard of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) is being developed. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will make a statement on the Ukraine-Russia war in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu told the Upper House that Minister Jaishankar will give a statement on the conflict. Naidu also lauded the efforts of the union and state governments for rising to the occasion to evacuate the Indian students.

Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said that the freezing of foreign currency accounts of the central bank, as well as the country's government, can be regarded as the desire of the West to organise an artificial default of Moscow. Russia has denied statements that it cannot fulfil its obligations under the public debt.
5 Indian students dead in Canada highway accident
Five Indian students in Canada have been killed in a highway collision in Canada's Ontario province. The five were killed when their van collided with a tractor-trailer on Canada's Highway 401 between Belleville and Trenton early Saturday morning. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have identified them as Jaspinder Singh, 21, Karanpal Singh, 22, Mohit Chouhan, 23, Pawan Kumar, 23, and Harpreet Singh, 24.
Russia's reported calls for military supplies, economic assistance put China in a fix
Russia has asked China for military help and aid in evading sanctions imposed on Moscow as it continues to wage its war against Ukraine, the BBC reported citing US officials as saying. China's Embassy in Washington says it is not aware of the request, as the US warns of consequences.
We have enough funds to service public debt obligations: Russia
Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov has denied reports that Moscow cannot fulfil its obligations under the public debt. Russia is also ready to make payments in rubles at the exchange rate of the Bank of Russia on the date of payment, he noted. The Ministry of Finance will additionally inform about the fulfilment of their obligations by agent banks under the terms of Eurobond issues.
