Russia becomes world's most sanctioned country

Due to its war on Ukraine, Russia has become the most sanctioned in the world, according to a New York-based sanctions watchlist site. Castellum.AI said that sanctions were first imposed by the US and its allies on Russia on February 22 a day after President Vladimir Putin declared the two Ukrainian rebel regions of Donetsk and Luhansk as "independent states". After Russia announced its military operations against Russia on February 24, hundreds more sanctions followed.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) said that media in Afghanistan is facing "far-reaching censorship" and "violence," stressing that the situation is much worse in districts and provincial centers compared to Kabul and big urban centres. The revelation was made in a report which had findings from interviews condccted since November 2021. The non-profit spoke to 24 journalists and other media workers in 17 provinces.

Ukrainian defence authorities have said that a top Russian general was killed during fighting near the country's second largest city of Kharkiv. In a statement on Monday night, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine identified the slain general as Vitaly Gerasimov, who was a major general, chief of staff and first deputy commander of the 41st Army of the Central Military District of Russia.

In his latest address to the nation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that he's still in Kiev and not hiding as Russia's war on his country has continued for the 13th day. In the video posted on his Facebook page late Monday night, Zelensky shows the views of the city from his office in the heart of the capital city. Zelenksy's video message came hours after the third round of peace talks between Ukrainian and Russian delegations ended without any significant developments.
