Mercedes-Benz India Reports Record Q1 Sales, Unveils New GLS AMG Line

To capitalize on this strength, the brand has introduced a dramatic new variant of its flagship SUV—the GLS AMG Line.

Mercedes-Benz India has registered its all-time highest sales in the April–June quarter, selling 4,238 vehicles—a resounding 10% year-on-year growth. The strong performance is an indication of robust demand from its mainstream, top-end luxury, and battery electric vehicle (BEV) segments.

To capitalize on this strength, the brand has introduced a dramatic new variant of its flagship SUV—the GLS AMG Line.

At ₹1.40 crore for the petrol variant of the GLS 450 AMG Line and ₹1.43 crore for the diesel variant of the GLS 450d AMG Line (both ex-showroom), the new car has brought together dynamic AMG design and luxury and performance together, adding to Mercedes-Benz's premium SUV portfolio.

Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, had this to say on the performance: "Mercedes-Benz kick-starts the current fiscal with best-ever sales performance, recording 10% growth. The strong sales performance is driven by the strong demand for our portfolio, especially for the top-end luxury and BEV segments, reflecting a continued customer preference for unique luxury cars with hyper-personalization and customization."

He further stated, "We are equally delighted with the strong momentum of our BEV portfolio, led by top-range BEVs such as the EQS SUV, EQS Maybach and the G 580 with EQ technology. Our intense concentration on strengthening the Top-End Luxury has been extremely effective in shaping customer preference and distinguishing Mercedes-Benz as the most aspirational luxury brand in India."

Strong Performance Across Key Segments
The company's high-end luxury brand featuring models such as the S-Class, Maybach, EQS Maybach, and the AMG performance cars had a strong 20% increase. Key drivers were the G 580 with EQ Technology, EQS SUV, and the AMG G 63. The performance-oriented AMG GT 63 PRO has already sold out until the end of the year.

BEV sales jumped a whopping 157%, representing 8% of overall sales in Q1. At the vanguard were the EQS 450 SUV, the newly launched EQS Maybach Night Series, and the electric G 580, each now with wait times of up to six months.

The bread-and-butter segment featuring bestsellers such as the C-Class, E-Class LWB, GLC, and GLE remained a stronghold, accounting for 60% of overall volumes and growing at 10%. The E-Class LWB, now available in a robust E450 variant, continues to be India's highest-selling luxury sedan.

The low-end luxury segment declined marginally, though Mercedes-Benz India still presents value for money models in this segment, holding value irrespective of the tug of more affordable options.

Launch of the New GLS AMG Line
The new GLS AMG Line 4MATIC boosts the brand presence in the full-size luxury SUV market. Since more than 16,000 GLS models are already on Indian roads, this AMG-inspired variant brings a sporty and aggressive touch to the range, taking its design cues from the iconic G-Class.
