Congress trounces BJP in 10 local body polls in Karnataka

The opposition Congress in Karnataka has trounced the ruling BJP by winning 120 out of the 263 wards in 10 local bodies across eight districts that went to the polls on April 27. Surprisingly, even the Janata Dal (S) performed better than the BJP by winning 66 seats as against the saffron party's 57 seats.
Oxygen concentrators added in exempted import category

Concentrators are used to provide oxygen to ease difficulty in breathing, as they extract concentrated quantities of oxygen from ambient air. At present, the country faces a supply crunch in the availability of medical oxygen, thus, making their import essential. Besides, high demand for such equipment has led to rising prices, and the move is seen as an effort to curb the rising cost of this equipment.
China's massive Tibet infra push cause of worry for India

China is planning to develop a massive defence logistics infrastructure in Tibet that will turn the once independent kingdom into a military hub to dominate the Himalayas. The plans were approved during the plenary session of China's National People's Congress (NPC) in March this year and also by the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
PM holds meeting with empowered groups on Covid related issues

The empowered group on economic and welfare measures made a presentation to the Prime Minister on the steps taken by it such as the extension of the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. It was discussed that the portability enabled due to the ‘One Nation, One Ration Card' initiative has helped more people, while the insurance scheme for frontline health workers has been extended for another six months.

India to receive Sputnik V vaccine consignments from May 1

India is expected to receive 5 million doses of the vaccine by June. According to media reports, around 150,000 to 200,000 doses of the vaccine will be delivered by early May and another 3 million doses by May end.
High courts should restrain from making off-the-cuff remarks: SC

While hearing a suo moto case on the prevailing Covid situation in the country, a Supreme Court bench comprising Justices D.Y. Chandrachud, Nageswara Rao and S. Ravindra Bhat observed that any off-the-cuff remark made by the high courts may be damaging to persons and can given misgivings about them.
Bengal announces partial lockdown amid Covid surge

Rajasthan to vaccinate those aged 35-45 yrs from May 1

Punjab defers Phase 3 of Covid vaccination for 18-45 yr group

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said as the balance of unutilised vaccines had to be returned to the Centre by all private health facilities by Friday evening, these facilities would have no vaccines to administer from Saturday for 45 plus population, while they could not vaccinate 18-45 age group as they had no supplies for the same.
