'Over 1 cr Covid vaccine doses available with states, UTs'

The ministry said that so far nearly 16.33 crore vaccine doses (16,33,85,030) have been provided to the states and UTs free of cost till Friday morning and of this the total consumption including wastages is 15,33,56,503 doses. "The states and UTs already have 1,00,28,527 Covid vaccine doses available for administration while additional 19,81,110 vaccine doses will reach them in next three days," the statement said.

Karnataka defers launch of Covid vax drive for people aged 18-44 yrs

State's Health Minister, K. Sudhakar told reporters that the new dates for inoculation for this age group (18-44 years) will be announced once the state receives the required quantity of dosage of vaccine to start the drive. "I appeal to our people not to crowd in front of any hospital as inoculation drive won't commence from May 1 as it was decided earlier," he said.
Chennai, Tirunelveli have high test positivity rates

With 40 Covid-19 deaths on Thursday, Chennai has reported the highest number of deaths since March 2020 when the virus was first detected in the country. The capital city Chennai has also the highest test positivity rate with 20 per cent or every 20 persons tested among 100 people turning positive. Tirunelveli recorded 17 per cent while Tuticorin has 16 per cent and Tenkasi reported 14.2 per cent test positivity rate.

Over 2.45 cr beneficiaries register for vaccination

According to the ministry, more than 1.37 crore beneficiaries registered on April 28 while more than 1.04 crore registered on April 29. In the third phase of Covid vaccination, which will start from May 1, everyone above the age of 18 will be eligible to get a vaccine for Covid-19.
