Only 7.8% women candidates in Assam electoral battle

According to the state's Chief Electoral Officer Nitin Khade, of the total 946 candidates, 74 are women while, out of the overall 2,33,74,087 voters, 1,15,50,403 are females. He said out of the 33,530 polling stations set up for the three phases (March 27, April 1, April 6) of the polls across the state, 1,351 are all women managed.
Bijapur Maoist attack: 22 security personnel martyred, search on

As the identity of the security personnel is yet to be confirmed, both the state police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) confirmed that 22 bodies were recovered in a massive search operation. Of the 22 personnel, nine belong to the CRPF, while the remaining are from state police's District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Special Task Force (STF).

Bijapur gunfight: 21 security personnel missing

The gunbattle began on Saturday noon with a group of over 300 Maoists after a joint team of CRPF's elite unit CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Special Task Force (STF) launched an operation in the area. There were reports of heavy damage to the Maoists too.

Miss India finalist to contest UP Panchayat polls

Diksha, a finalist in 2015, is contesting the polls from Jaunpur. She told reporters that she would contest from the Baksha ward of the district and would be filing her nomination papers on Sunday. Jaunpur goes to the polls on April 15 and the result would be announced on May 2 after four phases of polling. Diksha has already started campaigning in her ward.

ED attaches properties worth Rs 3 cr of Trinamool's Ghosh, Satabdi Roy

An ED official said that the agency has attached properties in the form of movable and immovable assets worth Rs three crore pertaining to Ghosh, Roy and Mukherjee in the Saradha chit fund case. The ED action comes a month after it questioned Ghosh on March 2 this year in connection with the case.
