Mamata Banerjee's Swasthya Sathi scheme falls flat as private hospitals play spoilsport

Mamata had also sounded a warning saying if anyone refuses to give health care, the government has the power to cancel their licence. The CM said the state government had the right to cancel licences of private hospitals and nursing homes if they refuse to treat patients under the goverment's Swasthya Sathi health scheme.

Apart from this, 6,753 people tested Covid positive in the state after 58,057 samples were tested as the positivity rate in the state was reported to be 11.63 per cent while 6,108 patients recovered from the virus. Ernakulam district reported highest number of new cases with 1,018 positive cases on Friday while Kasargod with 67 positive cases reported the least numbers.

According to airport sources, landing and takeoff would not be allowed from 10.35 a.m. to 12.15 p.m during January 20-26, excluding January 25. Accordingly, a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) has been issued. However, there will be no impact of 'NOTAM' on IAF, BSF, Army aviation helicopters and those operated by state owned aircraft or helicopters ferrying Governors or Chief Ministers of State.

"The 50 volunteers, who are mostly shopkeepers and workers at Sarojini Nagar Market, have agreed to help the police to keep an eye on any suspicious activity. A high alert has been declared in the city after reports of terrorists planning attacks," said a senior Police officer.

The Chief Minister said that the Poonawallas have repeatedly assured that there would be no impact on the Covishield vaccine production and rollout which will continue unhindered. Adar Poonawala said: "The fire has damaged machinery that was being installed for the RotaVirus and BCG Vaccine production here... No actual vaccines are being manufactured here. The extent of the damage is around Rs 1,000 crore."
