WBSSC scam: Partha Chatterjee removed from all three ministerial posts
The decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet at the state Secretariat, Nabanna that lasted for little less than 15 minutes. Soon after the meeting, Chief Secretary, H.K. Dwivedi issued a notification on the removal of Chatterjee, who held the portfolios of Commerce and Industries, Parliamentary Affairs, and Information Technology and Electronics.

A lawyer mentioned a matter in connection with violence against the Christian community before a bench headed by Justice Chandrachud. The lawyer urged the top court to urgently list the matter. Justice Chandrachud said he had come across some news reports saying that the apex court is delaying the hearing on the matter and added since he had Covid, the matter could not be taken up for hearing.

The locals have confirmed that Chatterjee, currently the state commerce & industries minister, used to frequent this garden-house along with his close aide, Arpita Mukherjee, who is also being grilled by ED currently in relation to the WBSSC recruitment irregularities scam.
Rajya Sabha: 3 more opposition MPs suspended for 1 week
The three suspended members are Sushil Kumar Gupta, Sandeep Kumar Pathak and Ajit Kumar Bhuyan. With this, 23 members from the Opposition are now facing suspension. The House proceedings were adjourned for till 2 p.m. amid ruckus from the Opposition benches.

India reports 20,557 new Covid cases, 44 deaths
In the same period, there were 44 additional deaths which took the nationwide Covid death toll to 5,26,211.
The active caseload rose to 1,46,323, accounting for 0.33 per cent of the country's total positive cases. The recovery of 19,216 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,32,86,787. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.47 per cent.

According to ED sources, Mukherjee also admitted that the cash recovered from her residences was parked there by Chatterjee with the help of one of his close associates unknown to her. It is learnt that whenever Chatterjee visited Mukherjee's residences, the Minister had closed-door meetings with the unknown person which she was not allowed to participate in.

Moreover, the total number of candidates recommended by recruiting agencies for appointment in different Central government departments has shown a decline over the last few years, Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh told the Lok Sabha in a written reply. During 2019-20, a total 1,47,096 persons were appointed in the different government departments. However, the number came down to 78,555 in 2020-21 and 38,850 in 2021-22.
