In a series of tweets, the Prime Minister said: "India scripts history. At a time when 1.3 billion Indians are marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a daughter of India hailing from a tribal community born in a remote part of eastern India has been elected our President! Congratulations to Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji on this feat."
'Need to see which states are proactive': SC asks Centre to compile info on hate speech from states/UTs
A bench, headed by Justice A.M. Khanwilkar, hearing a clutch of petitions seeking directions to prevent hate speech and rumour mongering, asked the Central government to make a compilation, in the form of a booklet, and place it before the court within a period of six weeks. Citing judgments delivered by the top court in 2018, the bench, also comprising Justices A.S. Oka and J.B. Pardiwala, said they specifically provide for a structure and the follow-up action to be taken.

'Can't deny abortion if woman is unmarried', SC allows plea to terminate 24-week pregnancy
A bench headed by Justice D.Y. Chandrachud said letting an unmarried woman suffer an unwanted pregnancy will be contrary to the object and spirit of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act. The top court noted that after the 2021 amendment, the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act uses the word "partner" instead of "husband" in the explanation to Section 3.
Presidential Poll Results 2022: Draupadi Murmu leading against Yashwant Sinha after first round of counting
The number of votes in favour of Murmu was 540 and for Yashwant Sinha it was 208 out of a total 748 valid votes. Total value of valid votes stands at 5,23,600. Counting of votes for the Presidential poll started on Thursday at Parliament House in New Delhi and it is likely to be concluded by evening. If elected, Murmu will be the first tribal woman to occupy the top constitutional post in the country.
Over 9 lakhs vacancies in central govt as on March 1, 2021
In a written reply, MoS PMO Jitendra Singh said: "As per Annual Report of Pay Research Unit of Department of Expenditure, total 9,79,327 posts were lying vacant in Central Government Ministries as on 01.03.2021." However, no such data is maintained centrally in respect of PSUs, Central Universities, he added.
India logs 21,566 Covid cases, 45 deaths in last 24 hrs
In the same period, 45 more Covid deaths were reported taking the nationwide death toll to 5,25,870. Meanwhile, the active caseload has marginally increased to 1,48,881 cases, accounting for 0.34 per cent of the total positive cases. The recovery of 18,294 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,31,50,434. Consequently, the recovery rate stands at 98.46 per cent.
