BJP picks Bengal Guv Jagdeep Dhankhar for Vice President

"After detailed discussion and considering all the names, the BJP Parliamentary Board has decided to announce the name of Kisan Putra Jagdeep Dhankhar as the BJP and NDA candidate for the post of Vice President. Presently he is the Governor of West Bengal and has been in public life for almost three decades," Nadda said.
PM Modi inaugurates 296-km-long Bundelkhand Expressway in UP

The four-lane expressway, which can be later expanded into six lanes, passes through seven districts -- Chitrakoot, Banda, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Auraiya and Etawah. The expressway has been built at a cost of around Rs 14,850 crore. The prime minister had laid the foundation stone of the expressway on February 29, 2020, and it has been completed in about 28 months.
India logs 20,044 new Covid cases, 56 deaths

In the same period, 56 fatalities took the nationwide death toll to 5,25,660. Meanwhile, the active caseload has also risen to 1,40,760 cases, accounting for 0.32 per cent of the total positive cases. The recovery of 18,301 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,30,63,651. Consequently, the recovery rate stands at 98.48 per cent.
Rubaiya Sayeed identifies Yasin Malik as her abductor

Rubaiya Sayeed, listed as the witness for the prosecution, appeared before the CBI court here and identified Yasin Malik and three other accused as her abductors. Rubaiya Sayeed was abducted in 1989 and her release was managed by swapping four jailed militant commanders when her father was then the Home Minister in the V.P. Singh government.
India, China to hold 16th Corps Commanders talks on July 17

The meeting will be held in continuation with the discussion of the disengagement from friction points along the Line of Control (LAC) in the region. "In continuation with the talks on disengagement along the LAC in eastern Ladakh, the 16th round of talks will be held on the Indian side at Chushul-Moldo Meeting Point on July 17," the source added.
Health Ministry issues guidelines for monkeypox management

The first laboratory confirmed case of monkeypox was reported from Kerala's Kollam district after which the Union Health Ministry had rushed a multi-disciplinary team of experts on Thursday. Surveillance and rapid identification of new cases is critical for outbreak containment, the guidelines said, adding that during human monkeypox outbreaks, close contact with infected persons is the most significant risk factor for monkeypox virus infection.
Delhi Court grants bail to Alt News co-founder Zubair in 2018 tweet case

Additional Sessions Judge Devender Kumar Jangala of Patiala House Courts granted bail to Zubair on the condition to furnish Rs 50,000 bond with one surety and not to leave the country without the permission of Court. A detailed order in the matter is expected to be made available later in the day. The same bench had reserved the pronouncement of the judgement on Thursday.
Justice Lalit: 'If children can go to school at 7 am, SC can begin hearing cases at 9 am

During hearing on a matter, Justice Lalit remarked that if children can go to school at 7 a.m. everyday, then why can't judges and lawyers come to court at 9 a.m. Justice Lalit said, "Ideally, we should sit at 9 in the morning. I have always said that if our children can go to school at 7 in the morning, why can't we come to court at 9?"

The active caseload in the country presently stands at 1,39,073, accounting for 0.32 per cent of the country's total positive cases. The recovery of 16,994 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,30,45,350. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.48 per cent. Meanwhile, India's daily positivity rate has also declined to 4.44 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate currently stands at 4.30 per cent.
