India logs 2,483 fresh Covid cases, active caseload dips to 15,636
Meanwhile, the active caseload of the country has reported a decline at 15,636 cases, accounting for 0.04 per cent of the country's total positive cases. In the same period, 1,399 Covid deaths were reported. Of the total deaths, 1,347 took place in Assam, said the ministry. With fresh fatalities, the nationwide death toll has mounted to 5,23,622.
'Menace to urban development': States must act on mushrooming illegal colonies, says SC
A bench of Justices L. Nageswara Rao and B.R. Gavai appointed senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan as amicus curiae in the matter. "We will have to find some way of making state governments act on this. This is a menace to urban development," it noted. The bench asked Sankaranarayanan to make recommendations to stop illegal colonies by the state governments.

The number of India's active caseload has increased to 16,522, accounting for 0.04 per cent of the country's total positive cases. The recovery of 1,862 patients in the last 24 hours took the cumulative tally to 4,25,21,341. Consequently, the recovery rate stands at 98.75 per cent. Also in the same period, a total of 3,02,115 tests were conducted, increasing the overall to 83.50 crore.
