World's richest temple seeks help to tide over financial crisis

Padmanabhaswamy is the tutelary deity of the royal family of Travancore. The titular Maharaja of Travancore, Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma, is the trustee of the temple. A top person in the family told IANS on condition of anonymity that things are not that rosy ever since Covid pandemic struck. The temple has around 200 employees both permanent and temporary and a sizeable number who are paid pension.
India reports 58,097 fresh Covid cases, Omicron tally reaches 2,135

On Tuesday, India had reported 37,379 Covid cases. With the addition of new deaths, the toll has reached 4,82,551. The active caseload has jumped at 2,14,004 which constitutes 0.61 per cent of the country's total positive cases. Meanwhile, the Omicron infection tally has climbed at 2,135 across the nation. However, out of the total Omicron positive cases, 828 have been discharged from hospitals.

MHA seeks report from Punjab govt over PM security breach

In a statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said, "Today morning Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed at Bathinda from where he was to go to the National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala by helicopter. Due to rain and poor visibility, the Prime Minister waited for about 20 minutes for the weather to clear out. When the weather did not improve, it was decided that he would visit the National Marytrs Memorial via road, which would take more than two hours. He proceeded to travel by road after necessary confirmation of necessary security arrangements by the DGP Punjab Police," the MHA said.
UP schools closed, night curfew extended

With effect from Thursday, night curfew timings have also been extended by two hours. The night curfew will be now form 10 p.m. to 6 a.m, instead of the earlier 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. According to the government spokesman, any district where the number of active cases crosses 1,000, an additional set of restrictions would also be imposed.
After security breach, PM Modi cancels Ferozepur visit

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced from the venue that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would not be able to address the rally "due to some reasons". Mandaviya was here for the foundation stone of three medical infrastructures, including the 100 bedded PGI Satellite Centre in Ferozepur to be built at a cost of more than Rs 490 crore. Earlier, the Prime Minister landed at Bhaisiana Air Force station in Bathinda town from where he was supposed to travel to Ferozepur by road.
Sameer Wankhede operates hotel, bar in Mumbai, alleges Nawab Malik

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Malik has sent a complaint to Suchitra Sharma, Director General, Vigilance, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) against former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai head Sameer Wankhede. Malik said Wankhede is holding a permit room and bar licence in his name from 1997 onwards till date. Wankhede is operating a hotel and bar named Sadguru Hotel in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, Malik said.
Big bonanza for poll bound Punjab by PM Modi

The consistent endeavour of the Prime Minister to improve connectivity all across the country has led to multiple national highway development initiatives being taken up in the state of Punjab. It has resulted in more than doubling the total length of National highways in the state from about 1,700 km in 2014 to more than 4,100 km in 2021. In continuation of such efforts the foundation stone of two major road corridors will be laid in Punjab. This will also be a step towards fulfilling the Prime Minister's vision to enhance accessibility to major religious centres.
China unfurls flag in Galwan valley on first day of new year 2022
