Visas of stranded foreign nationals valid till August 31: MHA
Accordingly, these foreign nationals will not be required to submit any application to the FRRO/FRO concerned for the extension of their visa till that period or until further orders. The MHA said that due to the non-functioning of normal commercial flight operations on account of the pandemic since March 2020, a number of foreign nationals, who came to India prior to March 2020 on valid Indian visa, have got stranded in India.

Over 24 crore vaccine doses provided to states, UTs so far: Centre
It also said that 1.93 crore Covid vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs to be administered. The Centre has so far provided, both through the free of cost category and through direct state procurement category, more than 24 crore vaccine doses (24,21,29,250) to the states and Union Territories.Of this, the total consumption, including wastages is 22,27,33,963 doses (as per data available at 8 am on Friday)
Defence Ministry clears Navy's mega deal for submarine procurement
Two Indian companies and five foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers had already been shortlisted earlier. The mega deal was approved during the DAC meet on Friday led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The mega submarine project for building of indigenous submarines for the Navy got the final clearance wherein two Indian companies that can work in collaboration with a foreign manufacturer.
India records 1.32L cases, 2,713 Covid deaths
On June 1, India reported 1,27,510 cases lowest since April 8. On April 8, India had recorded 1,31,968 cases while on April 7, the country witnessed 1,26,789 fresh cases. Tamil Nadu was the largest contributor with almost 25,000 cases while in the metros the count in the last 24 hours was 487 in Delhi, 961 Mumbai, 3,533 in Bengaluru, 976 in Kolkata and 2,062 in Chennai.
Wheat procurement up by 5.44% over last year: Government
Food and Public Distribution Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said that during current RMS, procurement of wheat is continuing smoothly in the procuring states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, and Jammu and Kashmir at MSP, and upto June 2, a quantity of over 411.12 lakh metric tons (LMT) has been procured against the last year's total purchase of 389.92 LMT.
Alapan Bandyopadhyay replies to Centre's show-cause letter
The letter was sent to Bandyopadhyay, presently the Chief Advisor to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, on May 31, the last day before his retirement. Though the full content of Bandyopadhyay's letter is not known yet, sources close to him said that the former Chief Secretary has defended his action of leaving the review meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi early along with Banerjee on May 28.
