Pakistan intruder nabbed along IB in J&K

BSF sources said the Pakistani national was apprehended in an injured condition while he was trying to sneak into the Indian side. "The intruder was challenged after which the troopers fired shots resulting in injury to the intruder. "He was treated at the BSF dispensary and later handed over to police," sources said.

The report said as India confronts a devastating Covid outbreak where thousands are dying each day, the country desperately needs to vaccinate its population as soon as possible. Yet the vaccine drive is stumbling just when it is most crucial, it said. Over the past six weeks, the number of vaccinations per day has fallen by about half, from a high of 4.2 million per day on April 2 to 2 million last Thursday.
Israel President calls Soumya Santosh's family, says country stands with them

Hailing from Idukki in Kerala, Santosh (30), who worked as a caregiver to an 83-year-old Holocaust survivor in Israel, was among those killed in a rocket attack by the Palestinian Islamist group on May 11.
Covaxin trials for 2-18 year group to begin in 10-12 days: Govt

Addressing the Union Health Ministry press conference, NITI Aayog's Member Health, Dr V.K. Paul said: "Covaxin has been approved by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for Phase 2 and 2 clinical trials in the age group of two to 18 years. I have been told that trials will begin in the next 10-12 days." Covaxin manufacturer Bharat Biotech received the DCGI approval to conduct clinical trials of Covaxin in children on May 11".
New RT-PCR kit to detect Covid-19 across various mutant strains

In a statement, the Ministry of Science and Technology said, "A newly developed multiplex RT-PCR kit has a higher accuracy of detecting Covid 19 across the various mutant strains of the virus responsible for the global pandemic. As the pandemic is going through a second wave with multiple variants, the selection of target genes in multiplex RT-PCR assay is becoming critical for accurate detection of the virus."
Super Cyclone 'Yash' might hit Sundarbans between May 23 and May 25

The met department warned that the ferocity of the cyclonic Storm named by Oman might equal that of 'Amphan' that devastated Kolkata and adjoining areas on May 19 last year during the lockdown.
