DRDO's anti-Covid drug 2-DG launched

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Health Minister Harsh Vardhan released the first batch of the 2-DG, an anti-Covid-19 therapeutic application of the drug developed by the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), a lab of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in collaboration with Dr Reddy's Laboratories (DRL).
Cyclone Tauktae to reach Gujarat coast Monday evening, IMD issues Orange alert

As per the IMD, Tauktae moved north-northwestwards with a speed of about 18 kmph during past six hours and lay centered at 2.30 a.m. on Monday over the east-central Arabian Sea near about 360 km north-northwest of Panjim-Goa, 170 km south-southwest of Mumbai, 350 km south-southeast of Veraval, 310 km south-southeast of Diu and 900 km south-southeast of Karachi.

Categorised now as 'Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm', its effects were felt shortly after midnight of Sunday-Monday with many areas lashed by heavy rains, accompanied by lightning and thunder in some places, aggravated by powerful winds, as it whirled northwards from Sindhudurg-Ratnagiri towards Raigad-Mumbai en route to the Gujarat coast.

Dr Sandeep Garg, nephrologist and renal transplant surgeon, said, "My patient was administered immuno-suppressive agents after renal transplant so that acceptance level of the new kidney is ensured. In addition, he was diabetic and a post-Covid patient who had been administered steroids that further lowered his immunity, making him vulnerable to black fungus attack."

The South Delhi police have arrested Kalra from Gurugram on Sunday late night and handed over him to the Crime Branch, sources said. Kalra was absconding since May 7. His alleged involvement in the black-marketing of Oxygen concentrators has also triggered a political blame game. The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused him of being close to the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party.

The Delhi Police has arrested over a dozen people in connection with the cases it registered, sources said on Saturday. The matter relates to putting up black colour posters criticising the Prime Minister for exporting the Covid-19 vaccines to other countries instead of fulfilling the requirements of the people of the country.
No char dham, devotees allowed virtual access to shrines

Uttarakhand Tourism Secretary, Dilip Javalkar, said that the outline is being fixed for the devotees of Char Dham for virtual darshan. Due to the suspension of Char Dharm yatra, devotees will be able to visit all four dhams, including Badrinath and Kedarnath, though virtually.
Delhi Metro extends suspension of services till 'further notice'

The DMRC did not share any particular time frame for the suspension of services, in place since May 9, to held curb the spread of Covid-19 pandemic. "In the wake of extension of curfew in Delhi for the containment of Covid-19 by the Govt. of NCT of Delhi, the Delhi Metro services on all its Lines shall also remain suspended till further notice.
