BJP Challenges INDIA Bloc Parties to Dissolve Their State Assemblies if EC Acts Unfairly

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra informed journalists that Rahul Gandhi has developed a habit of weeping "chor chor" and pointed out the irony of leaders such as him or RJD's Tejashwi Yadav—who is out on bail in a case of corruption like the Congress leader—accusing constitutional authorities of stealing.

The BJP dared INDIA bloc parties on Monday to dissolve the state assemblies in their charge if they raise doubts about the fairness of the Election Commission, accusing them of protesting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar to shelter infiltrators.

Patra said such parties as the Congress and Trinamool Congress (TMC) intend to cause "complete chaos" in India, comparing it with Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan unrest.

His statement followed criticism by eight opposition parties including the Congress, TMC, SP, DMK, and RJD against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, claiming that he had bashed them at a Sunday press conference rather than answering their questions.

The opposition and the ruling coalition have been engaged in a war of words regarding the SIR of electoral rolls, which has been paralysing the Monsoon session of Parliament from July 21. The only issue that was tackled smoothly in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha was a two-day debate in each house on Operation Sindoor.

Opposition parties alleged CEC Gyanesh Kumar of behaving like a BJP spokesperson by not answering their queries regarding the SIR and voter list anomalies. Patra retorted that the CEC offered point-by-point "technical rebuttal" to allegations by leaders such as Gandhi, accusing them of crying foul deliberately in order to bring about chaos for political motives.

"Do they believe their bench is superior to the Supreme Court, which is hearing the SIR matter and has not stopped the exercise?" he queried.

In media reports that Congress is set to deliver an impeachment notice to the CEC to Parliament, Patra stated the "insulting words" uttered by Gandhi and his party indicate their exasperation at back-to-back election defeats. "This indicates Rahul Gandhi and Congress frustration. They have only one aim—the (Gandhi) family has to achieve power at any cost," he alleged.

Countering TMC MP Mahua Moitra's call for dissolving the Lok Sabha on account of purportedly "defective" voter rolls, Patra called upon state governments ruled by INDIA bloc parties such as West Bengal and Telangana to dissolve their legislative assemblies. Pointing out that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has held office since 2011 through successive elections held by the same EC,.

Patra dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s “Vote Adhikar Yatra” in Bihar, claiming that people will reject the RJD-Congress alliance in favor of the incumbent NDA. Referring to Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, he alleged they are “do chor.”

The BJP leader attacked the opposition for bypassing legal means, like approaching the courts within 45 days of poll results or complaining to the Election Commission regarding voter lists. "Did they ever do that? They will chant 'chor chor' on the streets and will not let Parliament work," he asserted, terming the Congress a destructive force.

Patra cited Gandhi’s earlier “chor” accusation against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Rafale deal, noting that the Congress leader eventually apologized in the Supreme Court for misattributing critical remarks to the apex court.

He accused opposition leaders of targeting key institutions like the Supreme Court, Election Commission, and armed forces, stating their campaign “will amount to nothing.” He called the RJD a “chara chor,” referencing Lalu Prasad Yadav’s conviction in the fodder scam, while pointing to Gandhi’s family history in alleged theft.

“The functioning of Parliament is being obstructed… Not letting any work be done. What is the intention behind this?” Patra asked, charging that Rahul Gandhi’s Bihar yatra is aimed solely at protecting infiltrators.

He said it is the Election Commission’s responsibility to ensure non-citizens do not vote, accusing Rahul Gandhi and other opposition parties of raising questions on the voter list revision to secure votes from intruders and illegal migrants.

How to win elections with intruders, how to employ intruders, how to extend appeasement politics—these are the things the Congress and Rahul Gandhi have been pursuing," Patra charged.
