Ex-Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday welcomed his successor C P Radhakrishnan, saying the Vice President's office is set to acquire more prestige in his hands.
This was the first public utterance of Dhankhar since his resignation in July.
On the same day, NDA candidate Radhakrishnan won the Vice Presidential election with 452 votes, as opposed to the Opposition's candidate, B Sudershan Reddy, who received 300 votes.
In a letter to Radhakrishnan, Dhankhar stated, "Your appointment to this noble office is a testament to the confidence and trust by the representatives of our country."
He said that since Radhakrishnan had been so well-versed in public life, the office would "surely gain greater respect and glory" under his care.
Dhankhar had resigned as vice president on July 21 quite unexpectedly, citing health grounds, which had led to the new round of Vice Presidential elections.
