‘He may flee abroad soon’: Assam CM Calls Gogoi’s Family Bangladeshi Foreigners, Congress Retaliates

Sarma said that earlier he used to give importance to Gaurav Gogoi, "But later, when I came to know that his children and wife are foreigners, I realised that he (Gaurav Gogoi) too will probably flee abroad soon."

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a scathing attack on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, claiming there was no need to accord value to the opinions of the opposition leader as the majority of his close relatives are "foreigners."

Sarma said that earlier he used to give importance to Gaurav Gogoi, "But later, when I came to know that his children and wife are foreigners, I realised that he (Gaurav Gogoi) too will probably flee abroad soon."

"What wisdom can someone offer us when three members of his family are foreigners? I consider such a person to be a Bangladeshi foreigner," he added.

The Assam CM has been making serious accusations against Congress leader repeatedly. Sarma in May termed the Gogoi as a "deep-rooted Pakistagent," stating that the MP shared only 10% of the information regarding his trip to Pakistan and said he and his wife were heavily involved in anti-Indian activities.

Gaurav Gogoi refuted these accusations, terming them as mere "lies and slander."

In August, the Congress MP questioned the Himanta Biswa Sarma government, wondering why illegal infiltrators were still finding their way into Assam even though the BJP had been in power for almost a decade.

"The Congress party's position is clear, no Bangladeshi should stay illegally in Assam. It is the duty of both the Assam government and the central government to ensure this. They have been in power for 10 years, and with border security under their watch, if infiltrators are still coming, then who is responsible?" Gogoi asked.
