On Monday, the Delhi Police arrested some of the INDIA bloc leaders, including Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Trinamool Congress leader Sagarika Ghose, and Shiv Sena (UBT) legislator Sanjay Raut, among others, as they were on their way to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Key INDIA bloc leaders Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, and Priyanka Gandhi led a protest march from Parliament to the ECI headquarters. The protest took place against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar before the upcoming Assembly polls, and also against so-called "vote robbery" in last year's Lok Sabha polls.
Akhilesh Yadav was also spotted jumping over a police barricade as Delhi Police attempted to stop the Opposition MPs from moving forward.
Several protestors were meanwhile arrested by police while they sought to breach barricades placed along the way to the ECI office.
Following his arrest, Rahul Gandhi spoke to journalists saying, "They (ECI) cannot speak, and this is the fact. The truth is before the nation. This protest march is not political; it is a battle to safeguard the Constitution; it is a struggle for 'One man, one vote'. This is why we need a clean and spotless voter list."
