Rekha Gupta Attacked: Man Who Assaulted Delhi CM Identified as Rajesh Khimji From Rajkot

The man who assaulted Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during her weekly on Wednesday 'Jan Sunvai' at her residence has been found to be Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya, a 41-year-old from Rajkot in Gujarat, IANS reported.

Delhi Police have approached their counterparts in Gujarat for further coordination, the IANS sources further added.

Rajesh is said to have told the authorities that he belongs to Rajkot. He is being questioned by the police to know what motive was behind the attack.

Formal confirmation of both the attack and the attacker is yet to come.

The Delhi Police are bound to launch an internal investigation into how the attack was possible when there was heavy security cover. The incident raised serious questions about the security of the Chief Minister.

Sources informed IANS that in the course of the public hearing, Rajesh appeared suddenly and threw a heavy object at the Chief Minister, bringing her to the ground.

Initial, unofficial reports state that he screamed at Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, slapped her, and used obscenities.

Prior to the attack, Rajesh purportedly handed over some papers to the Chief Minister and mentioned a court case. He also reportedly tugged at her hair and slapped her, sources claimed.

The Chief Minister is currently under medical scrutiny, with doctors evaluating the extent of injuries to her, sources added.

After the incident, security at Chief Minister's residence has been beefed up. Top Delhi Police officers are present and an investigation is going on at the Civil Lines police station. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) was also present at CM Rekha Gupta's residence.
