The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on Friday appealed to the Hindu community to remain calm and avoid being influenced by what it described as anti-national forces seeking to exploit the alleged theft of donations from the Ram Temple to tarnish the image of the religion and society.
In a statement, RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale urged Hindus to stay united during what he termed a challenging period, saying such unity was necessary to defeat attempts by anti-Hindu elements to capitalise on the incident in Ayodhya.
He said, “The unfortunate incident of theft of funds deposited in donation boxes at the Shri Ram Lalla Temple in Ayodhya has hurt the sentiments and faith of the entire community and Ram devotees, and we are all deeply saddened by this incident.”
Hosabale noted that the Uttar Pradesh government had constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and initiated legal proceedings based on the recommendations of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
“It is essential to ensure that those found guilty in the investigation face severe punishment,” said Hosabale.
He added that the entire Hindu community, including the RSS, expected the Trust to treat the alleged misappropriation of temple donations as an exceptional matter and take concrete measures to rectify shortcomings in its administrative and governance systems so that the faith of millions of devotees remained unaffected.
“The current state of confusion and uncertainty must end. In this regard, we expect the temple management and the special investigation team formed by the government to take all necessary steps,” he said.
Hosabale also expressed hope that the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust would preserve the confidence of the Hindu community by ensuring sound financial management, transparent and efficient administrative systems, and an atmosphere marked by sanctity, purity and righteousness.
Earlier, spiritual leader Dhirendra Krishna Shastri also denounced the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, calling it “a great sin” while urging people to place their faith in the ongoing investigation and the country's legal system.
Speaking after arriving at Ayodhya airport, Shastri said, “I have already spoken about this earlier as well, and I have said before that this is not a sin but a great sin, and God will punish it. But I would also like to say that we should all have trust in the law and order of the country and in the SIT, as the investigation is ongoing. I have full faith in the country’s legal system and the government, and all the accused will be punished…”
