A broad range of political leaders from different parties attended the wedding reception of Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra and former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Member of Parliament Pinaki Misra in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The sophisticated reception was held at Hotel Lalit, slightly more than two months since the couple exchanged vows in an intimate wedding ceremony in Germany on May 30.
Wearing a red traditional saree with golden thread embroidery and old-fashioned gold jewellery, Ms Moitra was photographed greeting guests warmly in tandem with Mr Misra, who was dressed in a white ethnic outfit with a red embroidered border.
Photos that went viral on social media saw the couple exchanging happy moments and receiving best wishes from well-wishers and colleagues.
Among those high-profile attendees was Congress matriarch Sonia Gandhi, seen sitting next to Rajya Sabha MP Ranjeet Ranjan at the dinner table.
Samajwadi Party MP Virendra Singh, whose constituency is Chandauli, posted a post on X with his good wishes: "Attended reception of TMC MP Mahua Moitra ji and former MP Pinaki Misra ji at Hotel Lalit. I wish them a happy married life."
Trinamool MP and party Rajya Sabha Deputy Leader Sagarika Ghose put out her message saying: "Wishing beautiful bride @MahuaMoitra and Pinaki Misra all happiness at their beautiful reception today. Huge congratulations."
Trinamool MP and actress Rachna Banerjee posted moments from the celebration on Instagram, captioning: "Good wishes for the years to come. Stay happy."
Nationalist Congress Party MP Supriya Sule also sent her best wishes: "Congratulations, Mahua (@MahuaMoitra) and Pinaki! Wishing you a beautiful journey ahead filled with joy and happiness!"
Other TMC MP Saayoni Ghosh shared happy photos from the occasion, captioning: "Congratulations @MahuaMoitra and @OfPinaki, wishing you both a lifetime of happiness, love and laughter!"
The party was not just a joyous welcome to the bride and groom but also a catch-up for a number of political personalities. Ex-Congress MP Kunwar Danish Ali mentioned the event, saying: "Wonderful evening spent reconnecting with colleagues of 17th Lok Sabha, at the gracious reception hosted by @MahuaMoitra and @OfPinaki. An evening of conversations, camaraderie, and celebration."
He was seen enjoying the evening with several notable figures including former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav, Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann.
DMK MP Dr T Sumathy Alias Thamizhachi also made her presence felt and posted, "Today in New Delhi, I attended and extended my best wishes at the wedding reception of the illustrious Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament from West Bengal, Ms. Mahua Moitra, and Mr. Pinaki Mishra."
Ms Moitra, who has been an MP twice from Krishnanagar in West Bengal, is known to make fiery speeches in Parliament. Her husband, Mr Misra, a well-known Supreme Court attorney, started his parliamentary career in 1996 when he was elected on a Congress ticket from Puri. He is also a product of St Stephen's College and Delhi University.
