Almost a month since cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal opened up about his divorce, his former wife Dhanashree Verma has now shared her side of the story in an open podcast conversation.
Speaking out about the inner turmoil she went through, the actress-dancer also spoke about the viral incident when Chahal had put on a controversial t-shirt during the day of their last divorce hearing.
Interviewing with Humans of Bombay, Dhanashree remembered the overwhelming feeling she had in court. "I still remember when I was standing there and the verdict was being announced. Even though we were so prepared mentally, I became that emotional. I just began howling in front of everyone. I couldn't even explain what I was going through at that time. I just recall that I just kept sobbing, I was just howling and sobbing. Of course! All of that occurred, and he (Chahal) walked out first," she stated.
On the same day, Chahal drew attention by going about in a t-shirt that had the words "Be Your Own Sugar Daddy." Commenting on the incident, Dhanashree said that the cricketer could have used a more discreet manner to make himself known. "You understand that people will blame you. Before I had even known that this T-shirt prank had occurred, we had all understood that people would blame me for this," she noted.
In a playful mood, she also said, "Are bhai, WhatsApp kar deta. T-shirt kyun pehna hai? (You could have just sent it on WhatsApp. Why wear the t-shirt?)".
Her words follow Chahal dismissing cheating claims after appearing on Raj Shamani's podcast. "When I was doing the divorce thing, people started calling me a cheater. I have never cheated. You won't find a more loyal guy than me. To my loved ones, I think from my heart. I have never asked, just given," he claimed.
He further went on to say that gossip regarding his personal life was not fair. "I have two sisters, I know how to respect girls. Just because you are spotted with someone, you will pair up with someone and write for views," Chahal added.
Chahal and Dhanashree got married in December 2020 in Gurgaon, becoming one of social media's most beloved couples. The two were spotted in February 2025 at Bandra Family Court, where they applied for divorce by mutual consent. Their application to exempt them from the six-month cooling-off period was denied.
Following their separation for 18 months, the duo legally ended their marriage on March 20, 2025. Chahal reportedly paid ₹4.75 crore as alimony to Dhanashree.
In the meantime, Chahal has been frequently seen with RJ Mahvash over the past few months, setting tongues wagging about a new relationship.
