As the much-anticipated Asia Cup, scheduled for September 9 in the United Arab Emirates, draws closer, several prominent Indian cricketers, including Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah, arrived at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru on Saturday for mandatory fitness and pre-season assessments.
Though ODI team captain Rohit Sharma and pacer Mohammed Siraj also reported to the CoE, they are not included in the T20 team for the next continental tournament.
Shubman Gill, who is currently leading the Indian Test team, was originally scheduled to lead North Zone during the current Duleep Trophy at the CoE. But he skipped the quarterfinal match against East Zone due to a sickness.
Several Asia Cup-bound players, including Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, and Kuldeep Yadav, are participating in the Duleep Trophy, representing their respective zones. Additionally, wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma has been at the Centre for the last few days preparing for the upcoming tournament.
At the same time, players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shardul Thakur, and Sarfaraz Khan, who will play for West Zone in the Duleep semifinal next week, are also at the CoE. Jaiswal, in particular, is one of the standby players of the Asia Cup team.
