The inclusion of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the Indian team for the soon-to-be-held Asia Cup, to be played in the United Arab Emirates from September 9 to September 28, is being hotly debated among cricket fans.

The report says that the team management is keen to keep the nucleus of players who have performed well under Gautam Gambhir's guidance. India have dominated T20Is under Gambhir, winning 13 of 15 so far.

India's new Test captain, Shubman Gill, has been simply unstoppable. At 25, he has led his team to great heights, guiding India to an exciting 2-2 draw in the England series. Gill scored a whopping 754 runs at 75.40, with four centuries, of which was a career-best 269. His commendable performances saw him scoop the ICC Men's Player of the Month award for July as well.

In 2025, in all formats, Gill has scored 1,234 runs off 20 innings (14 games) at an average of 64.94, with six centuries and two half-centuries—the most hundreds by a batter in a calendar year in 2025. Only Ben Duckett of England has scored more runs this year with 1,290 from 27 innings and 23 matches at an average of 47.77, with three centuries and eight half-centuries, with a best score of 165.

India are also looking for an experienced middle-order batsman who will be able to cope with the slower pitches of the UAE. Shreyas Iyer and Jitesh Sharma are possible options to be included in the T20I squad.
