For the Headingley opener, both the pitch and outfield were rated 'very good'. During the second Test in Edgbaston, Birmingham, the pitch was graded 'satisfactory', with the outfield marked 'very good'. The same standards of surfaces — a 'satisfactory' pitch and 'very good' outfield — were recorded for the third Test at Lord's and Manchester's fourth.

The ICC is yet to update the pitch and outfield assessments for the fifth and final Test at The Oval. Compared to that, in the recently concluded Border–Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia, four out of the five pitches received the highest rating of 'very good' according to the new grading system by the ICC.
