Indian teen wonder Vaibhav Suryavanshi shattered the record for most career sixes in Youth ODI cricket in his 70-run innings off 68 balls in the second India U-19 vs Australia U-19 50-over match at the Ian Healy Oval on Wednesday.
Suryavanshi’s knock featured five boundaries and six towering sixes. His fourth six of the innings saw him surpass former India U-19 captain Unmukt Chand’s record of 38 sixes in 21 matches.
Remarkably, the 14-year-old achieved this milestone in just 10 innings, extending his total to 41 sixes. India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal ranks third in Youth ODIs with 30 sixes in 27 matches.
Suryavanshi completed his fifty in 54 balls and was playing in sublime touch before he was caught by Australian captain Yash Deshmukh. The innings came after his classy 38 off 22 deliveries in India's seven-wicket triumph over Australia in the series' first ODI.
The left-handed Suryavanshi played a strong hand to give India U-19 a strong platform after losing Ayush Mhatre early on, with the team at 117/2 in 18.3 overs when Suryavanshi got out.
Gratefully, Suryavanshi and Vihaan Malhotra added 70 runs too, and India posted a daunting target of 301 against Australia U-19 in 49.4 overs. Australia U-19 were tottering at 96/4 in 26.4 overs at the time of reporting.
Earlier in 2025, Suryavanshi was the highest run-scorer in the five-match India U-19 vs England U-19 Youth ODI series with 355 runs at an average of 71.00 and a strike rate of 174.01.
Following the record-breaking feat of becoming the youngest-ever selection in the IPL 2025 auction, Suryavanshi also became IPL's youngest centurion, scoring a 35-ball 100 against Gujarat Titans for Rajasthan Royals. He concluded the season with 252 runs in seven games at a record strike rate of 206.56 to earn the Super Striker of the Season award.
